I’ve been meaning to ask: What is the deal with her armor design. I’ve never seen plate armor with large dome shielding on the hips.
Those plates are meant to be additional protection for the bits where the chest and leg plates connect. I’m not sure if proper historical equivalent would be faulds or tassets or a mix of these two. Generally, these plates are meant to not just be protective, but also usable while riding a horse. If you check the coverpage of vol. 1 the plates looked slightly different. That, however, is not the only change, Anne’s armor was significantly simplified, and somewhere in this simplification process those leg protection plates also changed to the form you see in the newer plages.
