Hi Everyone!
Today we’re here with a big update for the pages that were already uploaded previously. It was never a secret that Tales of Midgard was first and foremost a webcomic, however, the format we used was appropriate for print as well. Volume 1, which is chapters 1-10 has been up and available for a while now. While turning the first volume into print was never a priority we always wanted to at least look at our work in print, but to have proper good looking prints we decided that a few changes were needed.
Based on your feedback and our repeated re-checking of the first volume we decided to implement these changes. Some are small changes, some are more major. All together now we have the first four chapters done. Here is every page that was changed in a before-after format:
Chapter 1 Page 10
Before

After

The change here is rather small, Anne’s hair accessory was missing the color.
Chapter 1 Page 22
Before

After

On page 22 the change involves the faces of the characters. There’s a slight orange shade added to the faces of people on many pages. This orange glow was present here, but it was simply a bit too much.
Chapter 1 Page 23
Before

After

Page 23 had the background in the street and the movement lines updated a bit.
Chapter 1 Page 28
Before

After

Page 28 was a page where the effect of the sword swing was changed, or to be more precise it was added in.
Chapter 2 Page 5
Before

After

This page has one of the hugest changes throughout all the changes in this update. The first panel is supposed to show a vivid train station full of life, but in the original page, there was nobody. It was literally empty. To fix this we added a lot of people going on about what people do in a train station.
Chapter 2 Page 8
Before

After

Page 8 of the second chapter used to have black figures in the background, these figures are now fully colored.
Chapter 2 Page 9
Before

After

Page 9 is almost the same as the previous page, but the black figures were a lot more prominent here.
Chapter 2 Page 10
Before

After

Page 10 is another page where the orange effect on the faces was removed. Also in the bottom of the page the little heart on the bottle was lacking color, so we also filled that in.
Chapter 2 Page 11
Before

After

Page 11 is the next page with the orange effect on face being tuned down.
Chapter 2 Page 12
Before

After

On this page in the middle panel Erik was missing his eyebrows. That’s now fixed.
Chapter 2 Page 15
Before

After

The next edit is in the third panel of page 15. There’s a lamp, but it used to lack the effect of the fire in it, but that effect is now added.
Chapter 2 Page 16
Before

After

Page 16 was also missing the luminous effect of light from the lamp. Here the light reflecting on the nearby surfaces was not missing, but that was enhanced a bit.
Chapter 3 Page 3
Before

After

The next page that is updated is page 3 of chapter 3. The crow’s nest… It wasn’t exactly wrong as historically such constructions did exist, but we felt that a fully closed bottom was better for it here thus we changed it.
Chapter 3 Page 5
Before

After

Next up is page 5 of chapter 3. Here the speech bubbles were slightly confusing for reading order, so we changed the position of them. This should help in reading the bubbles in the correct order.
Chapter 3 Page 11
Before

After

The next change is on page 11. Gjurd is shown here first. We see him in the typical clothes worn by the members of the Crimson Charr Reunification Army, however, not everyone here wore the same design. Gjurd and Mia both always wear jackets with 1 yellow stripe on the collars even when they change form one jacket to another, however, this bit was missing on this page.
Chapter 3 Page 20
Before

After

The last change in chapter 3 is on page 20. We had a typo here for the word crimson, but that is now fixed.
Chapter 4 Page 7
Before

After

The next page that was changed is page 7 from chapter 4. Here we actually had to do two updates. In the middle of the page Erik’s eyes used to look unfocused and Anne’s armor lacked everything in coloring except for the flat colors. Both of these mistakes were corrected.
Chapter 4 Page 12
Before

After

Page 12 is where the next update happened. All the figures on the ship and the pier were plain black, but this is now fixed.
There is one more change that we did in this update, that involves the front coverpage of volume 1, however, this change does not show on the image at all. The change here is purely for print, you see, the area you see was not altered at all, but for print a small bit around the intended print area is also filled in. This is called the bleed. The point of this is simple: if the paper slides a bit or if it’s just not perfectly aligned with the printer you would get blank space where the image ends. The bleed extends a bit further thus these small mistakes will simply not show after the printing process is done. We originally didn’t have bleed on the front cover, but now we do.
This is all of the updates we have for now. We really hope you liked what you saw here. So far we’re uncertain when we’ll be ready with prints, or how we’ll distribute them, but we do hope that you guys are looking forward to the printed version as much as we are. Have fun reading!
